You want to start firearms training but are unsure whether to choose a pistol or a carbine. Begin with your goal: which type of equipment do you want to understand, and which later training interests you? A course's popularity alone cannot answer that question.
Two foundation courses, different equipment
Pistol Fundamentals L1 and Carbine Fundamentals L1 are separate introductions. One concerns handguns; the other concerns carbines. Both begin with fundamentals relevant to their respective platform. Experience with one does not replace familiarisation with the other.
You do not have to choose one path permanently. Start with the course that matches your current purpose and broaden your experience later.
When to consider pistol L1
Discuss this option with HRT if you want to start learning with a pistol, revisit your foundations or prepare for further pistol courses. Read the current programme and describe your previous experience to the instructor, including any break from training.
When to consider carbine L1
Explore this course if you are interested in long guns or already have pistol experience and want to understand another platform. Do not treat it as automatically harder or easier: it covers a different subject with its own requirements.
Compare the arrangements before booking
- The programme and entry requirements.
- Equipment you must provide or discuss in advance.
- The available date and training language.
- The current price and what the offer includes.
Do not buy a firearm, ammunition or accessories solely on the basis of a course name. Check the requirements and confirm missing items with HRT first.
A short enquiry is enough to begin
Explain that you are considering your first course and describe your experience, goal and preferred date. If you are still unsure, ask HRT to suggest an appropriate starting point.
